History

TSL was started with experience and truly hit the ground running. From its inception in 1994 as Total Traffic Services through to Traffic Systems Ltd in 2003, TSL have been successfully servicing the traffic systems market for over 20 years.

Their success in the business has led them to build a team of experienced contractors and employees, while creating a well connected global supply chain.

Originally focused on traffic signals, TSL has diversified their offering to fill needs in traffic management and civil construction with the acquisition of cushion trucks and a team of STMS qualified people.

TSL have invented an anti skid surfacing product allowing them to supply an effective solution for road markings, both in terms of cost and results. TSL have built a reputation for allowing their clients to achieve real success in real world situations. TSL will work at any level of involvement that is required by clients and will always offer advice and expertise.

Sam Best

Regional General Manager
(Auckland and Northland)

Sam is an enthusiastic and highly motivated HNC qualified Civil Engineer with over twenty-two years of experience in the Civil and Construction Management industry in the UK and New Zealand. Project experience includes pumping stations, heavy civils, structures, highways, building and aviation sectors. Highly organised and efficient and can quickly adapt in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment.

Mike Lyons

Regional General Manager
(Waikato)

Mike has loads of Civil Contracting experience, an entrepreneurial eye and great relationship skills. After working for two large Civil Contractors around London for 14 years, he took the plunge, launched on his own and ran his own civil contracting company in the UK for eleven years. His adventurous spirit then took him to Australia and later moved to Taiwan after marrying a Taiwanese lady. He once again started his own civil contracting company in Taiwan. Mike then decided to move to New Zealand where he joined TSL in 2018

Leon van der Merwe

Construction Manager

Leon is a highly experienced Project Construction Delivery Manager with an impressive track record spanning over three decades. With expertise in overseeing the delivery of multimillion-dollar projects, Leon’s career has been defined by his commitment to excellence and his ability to navigate complex project lifecycles. Since joining TSL in December 2002, Leon has consistently demonstrated his proficiency in understanding risk profiles and concurrently delivering a wide range of physical works projects for clients such as Auckland Transport across the Auckland Region.

Deep Bhagat

Senior Estimator

Deep is a professional civil engineer with over 22 years of experience with 7 years on-site experience in project management, execution of projects, and remaining in estimation and procurement. He has a proven track record of being an effective leader that delivers projects for each technical, contractual, and commercial target on time whilst rigorously enforcing high Quality and Health & Safety standards.

Graham Sims

National Manager Water Blasting

Graham has 23 years’ experience in the ultra-high pressure water blasting industry.  He manages our water blasting division undertaking line marking removal and water cutting and surfacing projects throughout New Zealand.

Sathish Kumar Khandavelu

Project Engineer

Sathish is a dynamic and results driven Project Engineer with 4+ years’ experience in the full life cycle of civil engineering projects specializing in bulk excavation, public drainage and soft and hard landscaping concrete works on residential and road corridor maintenance projects. His expertise also includes maintaining health and safety standards, managing multiple projects, controlling costs, implementing quality assurance procedures, and handling variation claims. He is driven by a passion for learning and developing both new and existing skills.

Annette de Wet

HSEQ Manager

Annette has 15 years’ experience in the civil construction industry specialising in training and health and safety. She is responsible for inductions and compliance to TSL’s HSEQ standards.

Naveen Prakash

Warehouse Manager

Naveen brings over 14 years directly relevant experience as TSL’s Warehouse, Logistics, and Workshop Manager. Naveen and his team provide a major support role to the TSL Group, ensuring all traffic signal equipment is delivered on time, in full and to the required specification for TSL’s contracts and projects.
In addition to this, Naveen manages TSL’s vehicle, plant, and machinery maintenance team based at TSL’s workshop. This includes manufacturing of traffic signal poles and painting to meet required specifications.
Naveen has significant experience in a wide range of activities and disciplines which enables TSL to run a smooth, low-cost operation at its Auckland Warehouse and Workshop for the benefit of TSL’s clients. The diverse operation is set out below
